Testimony

Sunhee is the founding director of Holy Flame Ministries. Originally from South Korea, she grew up in a rural village where Shamanism was prevalent. From an early age, Sunhee was deeply affected by the shadow of death and the suffering of the poor and broken-hearted. These early experiences of pain and suffering opened her spiritual eyes and led her to question why there is so much suffering and darkness in the world.

In her teenage years, Sunhee had the opportunity to attend church with her sister, which sparked her curiosity about the spiritual world. At the age of 29, she had a personal encounter with the Holy Spirit and soon began her mission work, traveling to various countries and eventually settling in Canada. Despite having a broken life, Sunhee experienced God's grace, which began to heal her and ignited a passion in her to share God's grace and joy with others who are suffering.

Over her 20 years in British Columbia, Sunhee has initiated various ministries, ranging from street outreach to prison ministries. Her efforts culminated in the formal establishment of Holy Flame Ministries in December 2011, when she received a business number, and again in 2014, when she was granted a charity number. In the past 7 years, the ministry has expanded its prison work to provide practical, spiritual, and relational support in prisons, halfway houses, and in the community for ex-prisoners.

Sunhee’s vision, driven by God's compassion, continues to grow, especially for long-term offenders with life sentences. Holy Flame Ministries' ongoing mission is to help offenders live with joy and hope, supporting one another in their brokenness to rebuild their lives in the community and walk alongside them as their lives are transformed.

“Remember those in prison, as if you were there yourself. Remember also those being mistreated, as if you felt their pain in your own bodies” (Hebrews 13:3. NLT).
